Submission Rules and Regulations

Submissions accepted in the following categories:

1 Dramatic Fiction
2 Comedy Fiction
3 Documentary
4 Animation
5 Out of the Ordinary

Open to Anyone, Anywhere about Anything (except porn or child pornography)

Films should be no longer than 28 minutes and no shorter than 2 minutes. To be considered for competition, the film must have been completed not prior to 2015.

We accept both foreign and domestic films. The film must be in English or have accompanying English subtitles. We DO NOT accept music videos.

The film may not be copyrighted by anyone other than yourself or you must have full written permission to submit and screen this film. The film must have clear copyright of all audio and images presented in the film. Not having clearance could be grounds for non-acceptance to the festival. Entrant must allow usage of clips from the entry and all related publicity material submitted for promotional use on TV, print and/or the internet. This helps us promote you!

All submitted films will go before a submission committee for evaluation.

A press kit (EPK) is also recommended but not required. Only completed entries will be processed and considered for submission.

No refunds and no CODs. Filmmaker will be responsible for all shipping costs.

All international entries must be sent “free domicile, cultural value only” to the Festival office with all transportation charges, duties, and taxes prepaid by the shipper. Be sure to include all the proper customs documentation required by your shipping service. For international films accepted for screening, Taos Shortz Film Fest will cover two-way shipping costs only for the final presentation screening video.

No submissions will be accepted after the late deadline.

Entries that have been chosen for screening at Taos Shortz 2018 will be notified. We will not automatically contact you if your film has not been selected for presentation.

Films not accepted can be returned if a self addressed pre paid mailer is provided. We will gladly let you know why your film was not selected and for a very small fee we can offer a very detailed critique as to why we did not choose your film.

For submission purposes we accept only DVDs (NTSC or PAL) or On-line links. We DO NOT accept any other formats for submission judging. Please do not send a data disk (i.e. .mov file on dvd disk or USB drive). If you are submitting via a web link, please BE CLEAR AND LEGIBLE. We cannot guess at a long handwritten link. If we accept your film for final presentation in the festival, we will ask for a better quality format. As we are a HDD full digital festival, we do not screen “tape” or “celluloid” of any kind.

All entries, including on-line submissions, will not be processed until we have received your signed submission form and payment in full. Taos Shortz has a fairly strict policy on submission fee waivers. If you feel you have a legitimate case for asking for a waiver (not “I’M BROKE”) Taos Shortz will consider negotiation under our unique terms.

If your film is accepted and screened in the official screening venue for Taos Shortz 2018, Taos Shortz retains the right to screen your film at any venue or online forum that Taos Shortz deems a part of marketing and promotion of the festival. We will not retain exclusive rights to the film or distribution rights. Please let us know if you enter into any exclusive distribution rights after your formal screening.

Please be sure that your film name is written on both the face of your disc AND on the front of the mailing envelope, which should be sent to the following address:

Taos Shortz Film Fest
